Osteopathy is a natural and safe treatment. Osteopaths use observation, touch and manipulation to diagnose and treat problems caused by misalignment of the muscles, joints, ligaments, bones and connective tissue that make up the musculoskeletal system. In a healthy body this framework supports and protects the organs, helping all body systems - circulation, nerves, digestion and hormones - to function at their best.

Osteopathy is all about getting to the root cause of aches and pains.  It is relatively easy to treat the symptoms of conditions, but what is of more benefit is to address the underlying cause.  Osteopathy has become increasingly accepted within the UK, and is now widely respected as a safe, natural system of health.

How does Osteopathy work?

Osteopaths can draw upon a wide variety of techniques to work with body tissues and structures, such as muscles, ligaments, bones and nerves. Commonly used techniques include soft-tissue massage, stretching and manipulation (usually accompanied by a “popping” sound from within the joint). Treatment helps to alleviate tension and to restore function.

The techniques chosen will be appropriate to the condition and also to the patient. For example, the techniques used on a 20 year old weight-lifter would be very different from those used on a more elderly patient with osteoporosis.

What can Osteopathy treat?

Patients visit our Solihull Clinic seeking treatment for a wide variety of conditions, including: back pain and neck pain, repetitive strain injury, pregnancy related back pain, headaches, hip and knee pain, sciatica, arthritic conditions, shoulder and elbow pain,  disc injuries,  postural problems caused by driving or work strain and sports injuries of all kinds.

What happens at my appointment?

Your Osteopath will listen carefully to you and the background of your complaint. You will also be asked questions about your general health, in order to make sure that you receive the most appropriate treatment.

After observing and examining you, a treatment approach will be discussed with you. The initial session at our Solihull clinic usually lasts 45-60mins, and subsequent sessions will last 30mins.
